What is a safety valve?
A safety valve is a spring operated valve that is designed to open at a set point to relieve pressure. Typically the set point for a safety valve is the maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) of the system. Pressure acting on a greater surface area once the valve opens allows the valve to "pop" and reach full lift for maximum pressure relief.
Why do I need a safety valve?
A safety valve is the last line of defense in an overpressure event. It is
important to be sized properly in order to properly reduce the pressure of the system. An imporperly sized valve,
both oversized and undersized, can be dangerous as it could impede the performance of the safety valve.
There are many scenario's that could cause a system to exceed the operation pressure of a system.
